2007 BMW 5 Series 535xi Consignment – SOLD!

Hey Cool Car Fans,

Yesterday, I delivered a really nice 2007 BMW 525xi to a client in Castle Rock, CO.  The new owner had owned a 325i years ago and was excited to get an updated all-wheel drive BMW.  This was a vehicle I had on consignment for another client who is a fishing guide here in Colorado and he recently found out he’s getting a new gig in New Zealand.

An Extremely Cool Motorcycle Video

Hey Cool Car Fans,

A friend of mine sent me this amazing video of a motorcycle race called the International Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) race, which is the most prestigious motorcycle race in the world.  The Isle of Man is located in the Irish Sea between the islands of Great Britain and Ireland, within the British Isles.

This race is held annually, the circuit is on public roads on the Isle of Man and unlike the Tour de France bicycle race, where spectators end up on the road, they have to make sure nobody is on the road for this race or they would be dead.  I was told that everyone in this video who crashed survived, which is hard to believe. The Music: Moby – Extreme Ways.

I embedded the video here at CoolCarGuy.com from Video Bash and it’s called The Spectacular T.T. Motorcycle Road Race.  The video is a little over four minutes long and I had to watch it several times because it’s absolutely amazing. If you’re into going fast, you will love this video. These guys are crazy and the video is extremely cool. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Blowing The Lid Off Of Credit Union Referral Fees

Hey Cool Car Fans,

As The Cool Car Guy I have been buying, selling, trading, consigning and leasing vehicles for people around the country for the past seven years.  I have my salesperson’s license hanging on the wall at a local car dealership here in Denver, Colorado.  I’m very selective about the company I keep in this industry that has such a “great reputation”. This article is not going to make a number of used car dealerships very happy, but I believe the truth will set you free and save you money.

Once in a while, I will have a client who contacts me that they went to their credit union to get approved on their own and their friendly loan officer recommended that they go to a local “buying service”.  Unfortunately, what the consumer doesn’t know is that there are no real “buying services” per se’, but they have been recommended to go to a car dealership that is no different than any other car dealer in town.  What makes them a “buying service” is the fact that this car dealership, that has been “highly recommended” to the buyer by the credit union, has an “arrangement” with the Credit Union.

The arrangement usually goes like this:

A decision maker at the credit union has been contacted by a dealership that “specializes” in working with Credit Unions.  How do they specialize?  Each time the credit union refers one of their clients to the dealership, the dealership will in turn give a commision or what some may call a “kickback” to the credit union for sending their clients to them.  This can turn into additional income for the credit union at the expense of the consumers, who are not fully aware of the commission and the “arrangement”.  Let’s face it, there is no free lunch and the only way the dealership can pay the commission to the credit union, is if they build it into the price of the vehicle. Unlike banks, are not credit unions supposed to look out for the best interest of their “Members”? Let’s see if that is true based on the following situation.

I delivered a vehicle last month to a buyer who worked with their credit union to get financing, but wanted a vehicle that a client of mine had me consign for them.  While I was there, I said to the loan office, “Hey, here’s some of my cards in case you have anyone looking for a vehicle and I’ll be happy to assist them for you.”  Her response was, “I can’t do that, but I wish I could because so many people know you.  I can only recommend “XYZ Car Dealership” because of the arrangement our credit union has with them.”  I said, “Really?  How much are they paying you for each referral?  Fifty dollars, a hundred dollars or more?”  She said, “I’m not at liberty to say.”.   Now I ask you, does that seem like a good deal for the Member?

The arrangement also usually means that the dealership will allow the credit union to underwrite the loan and they will not shop it for the client with other lenders.  Why would they?  They don’t want to jeapordize the “arrangement” that they have with the credit union by getting the person a better rate at a bank or other credit union.

I don’t operate this way.  I give people movie tickets out of my own pocket when they refer someone to me because I think it’s a much cleaner transaction for all parties involved.  I’ve had people refuse to refer people to me unless I paid them $250 for a referral and they instead refer them to other “brokers” – lol.  On the contrary, when I handle the financing for a client, the bank or credit union is often paying me a commission to put the loan with them, rather than the other way around.  They are going to give me the best rates possible because they know that I may not place the loan with them, unless they give me the best rate for my client and it makes sense for everyone involved.

Besides the credit unions that take an incentive for referrals to car dealerships, bankruptcy attorney’s often take even much larger commissions for sending their clients to car dealers.  That again is going into the cost of the vehicle, that could be used for reconditioning or getting someone a lower interest rate, mechanical repairs, etc.  Many of these dealers will not even recondition or properly check out the vehicles before sending them down the road.  I’ve had some of these people contact me, after the fact, and they are in a worse financial position with their vehicles than before they filed for bankruptcy.

So before you just hop into a deal with a car dealer, make sure you know what you’re getting into and who else is on the take for your transaction before you sign on the dotted line.  It’s always Buyer Beware when buying a motor vehicle, especially a used one.   Once you buy it – you own it.

That’s what makes me different as The Cool Car Guy.   I recondition vehicles, check them out with third-party safety inspections by certified mechanics, I make sure that the person getting the vehicle is getting the most bang for their buck, I don’t give “kickbacks” to anyone and I still earn a fair profit in the process that my clients are happy to pay me for my personal service.

On Consignment: Cool Car Guy 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 – SOLD!

Hey Cool Car Fans,

Last year I was contacted by a guy in Denver who wanted to sell his 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 that he had purchased almost 6 years ago, when his Father owned a used car dealership.  He really had a hard time parting with it and changed his mind and then decided last month it was time to sell it and move on to a different vehicle.

It didn’t take very long for me to move this vehicle for him and he had it priced to sell at just $10,500.  I had a number of calls on it right away, but like most of these fast cars, many of the people who called on it were not able to get financed.  One couple from Colorado Springs called me though and they decided to trade in their Jeep Liberty and get the Dodge Neon SRT-4 as the daily driver for the husband.  They were thrilled to get it and are not the proud owners of this unique vehicle.

One of the benefits of the Dodge Neon SRT-4 is that it gets great gas mileage for being a fast little car.  It gets as much as 30MPG on the freeway, while still pushing 230hp under the hood with the 2.4l turbo-charged motor.  This vehicle was only manufactured from 2003 to 2005, so they are becoming pretty rare.  In fact, one of the mechanics that checked it out for me said that he would buy it back from my new clients when it has 200,000 miles, which was pretty wild.

Like the Subaru WRX, Subaru WRX STI, Mitsubishi EVO and other high performance cars, this vehicle has a “cult” following.  I was talking with another auto broker earlier today and he said, “I can’t believe you sold that Neon?”, but he didn’t know this vehicle and how unique it is.  These vehicles have a following, but you have to be aware of some of the issues that they have with them before you buy one.  You have to make sure they are the right car before you start putting down $10,500 only to find out you need another $2,000 or $3,000 to make the vehicle “right”.

Enjoy the photos and if you see this vehicle driving down the road in Colorado Springs, you’ll know that you saw it here first on CoolCarGuy.com.

1999 Porsche Boxster Consignment

Hey Cool Car Fans,

I have a client who contacted me about helping him sell his 1999 Porsche Boxster cabriolet.  The Porsche Boxster is a mid-engine roadster built by Porsche. The Boxster was Porsche’s first road vehicle since the 550 Spyder that was originally designed as a roadster.  It’s a super cool car and in really good shape, especially for a Porsche around $10,000.  The miles are a bit high, but that’s why it’s priced to sell.

The first-generation Boxster (the 986) was introduced in late 1996 as a 1997 model; it was powered by a 2.5 litre flat six-cylinder engine. The Boxster’s name is a portmanteau of the word “boxer”, referring to the vehicle’s horizontally-opposed or “boxer” engine, and the word “roadster”, referring to the vehicle’s two seat capacity and convertible top. It will do 6.9 seconds (6.7) as a manual transmission with 201 horsepower @ 6000 RPM and  Gas Mileage City 17/Hwy 24 , which makes it a great commuter car.

Stock #: JB632573c Color: Black
VIN#: WP0CA2983XU632573 Transmission: 5 Speed
Year: 1999 Engine: 2.5L H6 DOHC 24V
Make: Porsche Drive Train: RWD
Model: Boxster Mileage: 106,590
Trim: Base State: CO
Interior: Leather Price: $10,995
Vehicle Type: Convertible

I read some of the reviews on this vehicle over at Kelly Blue Book and out of a 148 reviews, this vehicle rates a 4.8 out of 5 by owners of the vehicle.   One of the vehicles had 142,000 miles on it and the owner was talking about how much he loved his Porsche Boxster.  The original MSRP on this vehicle was $41,000, so you get a ton of bang for your buck at a quarter of the original price.

On one site, that gave the Boxster a 4.5 out of 5 rating, one of the owners wrote the following…

“The Boxster is an amazing deal. You get so many people staring at you thinking wow look at that $50,000 Porsche. Little do they know that you can pick up a nice used one for about 15k. It has been very reliable and has good performance. Not as fast as a 911, but I bet it handles better. The mid engine makes this car handle like a million bucks. You only live once…Buy a Porsche!!”

He brings up a great point about the fact that most people who are not car enthusiasts really don’t know the difference between a Porsche 911 and a Porsche Boxster.  The also don’t know that Porsche is a two-syllable word.

Great Review On Motor Trend About The 2012 Wrangler

Hey Cool Car Fans,

This month I have had three people contact me about consigning or trading their Jeep Wranglers and the offers I’ve been getting lately have not been very strong.  Which is quite odd for Jeep Wranglers, especially the four doors that are becoming even more popular, since historically they tend to do extremely well in Colorado.

Earlier today I was talking with a buyer for a Jeep store in Colorado and he explained to me that they have been taking orders for the new 2012 Wrangler that will be getting some major changes for this coming year.  Therefore, the bids on the Jeep Wrangler have been lower because of the new and improved model that is coming out.  The Jeep Dealers don’t want to get stuck with used inventory that they can’t move when people are going to want to upgrade to the better vehicle for not much more money.  The biggest change will be the amount of horsepower that is in the new Wrangler, which will be now getting the all-aluminum Pentastar that has 285 horses and 260 lb-ft.  This engine will provide Jeep enthusiasts with more horsepower, more torque, and better fuel economy.  What Jeep owner wouldn’t want those benefits?

Previous models have had the iron-block 3.8-liter V-6 that put out 202 horsepower and 237 lb-ft, so we are talking about a significant increase in horsepower and torque for this new bad boy.  In addition, the six-speed manual will be the same as before, but they are scrapping the four-speed automatic and going with the five-speed that is already found in the Grand Cherokee’s five-speed. All the rest of the major mechanical features (axles, suspension, steering, brakes), the body, dimensions, and structure are pretty much the same going forward.

MotorTrend has a great video and wrote a really good review of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler.  If you’re interested in reading their review you can click on this link.  Jeep.com is still marketing the 2011 Jeep Wrangler, but it should be worth the wait to get the 2012 for sure.  If you would like to order one, have me get lease numbers for you or help you financing, just send me an email or give me a call and I can assist you in tracking down the right vehicle.  I don’t expect there will be much savings on these initially, as they are filling the pipeline, but I can see if I can assist you in getting what you want and shop your trade for you, if you have one.

1969 Chevy Malibu Cool Car Guy Consignment – SOLD!

20110701-080203.jpgHey Cool Car Fans,

This is one of those extremely cool classic cars that somebody took the time to rebuild and they did it right. I have seen so many classic cars over the years that are junk. People have brought some of these cars to me and asked me to sell them, but I’ve said “No way!” because they couldn’t or wouldn’t invest the money to fix them correctly. Not so with this vehicle!

20110701-080352.jpgThis beast has almost $50,000 into it and he’s offering it for $29,995, which is a steal of a deal for what this car has to offer.

Unlike other consignments where I take the vehicle and show it to a potential buyer with a test drive at my office that is not going to happen here. I’ve asked the seller to allow me to bring the buyer to his shop and do a private showing because this vehicle has 600hp and two NOS tanks in the trunk.

20110701-080401.jpgThe last thing I would want is for someone inexperienced to get behind the wheel of this monster and lose control because this car needs someone with experience behind the wheel. It’s a ride that is ready for Bandimere Speedway or to be put into the garage of a private collector who just wants to look at the 1969 Chevy Malibu, which is a super cool ride.

20110701-080407.jpgAll of the documentation is with this vehicle, including photos of how it was torn down and rebuilt with plenty of photos along the way. You can see the size of the photo album that was put together documenting everything about this vehicle. It’s sweet! I’ll be amazed if it doesn’t sell for the full price and sell rather quickly once word gets out on the market that it’s available.

20110701-080416.jpg

There are plenty of people out there with some money who would rather invest in a vehicle like this than tinker around in their garage for the next three years trying to build something on their own. In the end their vehicle may not compete with this 69′ Malibu or it may end up costing them more money anyway. This vehicle is amazing and should do extremely well on the racetrack because it was built right with a 454 Big Block motor and all the bells and whistles.

Rather than write all the details here, I believe pictures are worth a thousand words. I’m going to let the photos speak for themselves on this one and if you know someone who is into really fast, well built and restored classic cars, send them this link and tell them to check it out at CoolCarGuy.com.

20110701-080422.jpg1969 Chevy Malibu Super Sport Clone – $29,995

UPDATE! The owner of the vehicle told me to drop the price to $22,000! Don’t miss it!

1991 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo Consignment – SOLD!

20110702-101239.jpgHey Cool Car Fans,

I finally delivered the 1991 Nissan 300zx that I had on consignment for several months as many of my followers know. Normally, a vehicle sells within 90 days of being listed or it is removed from JFRCars.com and other sites when the listing expires. JFR made an exception for me on this one, after I had showed it numerous times.

The great news is that it finally sold for $9,995.

It is now owned by a really cool guy in Colorado who is a big fan of Nissan Z’s. He traded his 1992 Nissan Z with almost 120k miles on it that didn’t have the twin turbo’s like this one.

20110702-101250.jpg

I was able to wholesale that vehicle for him and use it as a trade against this vehicle. It’s a year older than what he was driving, but it has the twin turbos and half the mileage. He wrote to tell me how much he likes his new vehicle and that he’ll be in the market for an SUV down the road that he wants me to find for him. That is what I do for my clients as The Cool Car Guy, source vehicles, and had I not been consigning this vehicle I could have probably found one for him through my various sources for cars. If you’re thinking about getting a different vehicle, drop me an email or give me a call and I’ll let you know if I can track down what you’re looking to purchase.

20110702-101259.jpg

I was actually able to get him financed on this vehicle, even though it was 20 years old. NADA doesn’t go back to 1991 without classifying it as a classic car and very few lenders will loan money on classic cars because of the age of the vehicles.

I thought I would post some photos of it here for my readers to check out the vehicle and for the new owner.

I won’t be taking on any new consignments anytime soon. I’ve been doing consignments for almost six years and they are very time consuming. I had over thirty calls on this vehicle and numerous offers and showings to find the one person who was serious about purchasing the vehicle.

The previous owner is glad his vehicle is sold and it went to someone who is a Z enthusiast. This was the second 300zx he had owned. Having owned it for many years he decided it was time to let it go.

20110702-101307.jpg

It can be really tough to sell old cars unless you can find a cash buyer and many times they want to pay much less than the seller is hoping to get, especially if the vehicle needs work or if the car or truck has a questionable history, it is even more difficult. I was glad that it worked out for both parties and I didn’t have to return the vehicle and throw in the towel, which I have to admit was tempting for the amount of time involved in selling this one.

Unfortunately, the consignment service I’ve been offering has been taking away from my primary service as The Cool Car Guy, which is locating vehicles for my clients. I work with every make and model. I shop my client’s trades to get the most money possible. I can handle their financing. I have access to the Dealer Auctions and rental car fleets to save more money. I also assist clients in buying or leasing new as well as used vehicles.

20110702-101318.jpg

Needless to say, this takes a great deal of time and consignments have been something I’ve been offering as a service to assist people to get more money for their vehicles than if they traded them to a dealer or sold them on their own on Craigslist.com, EBay or other online advertising sources.

Which I want to mention something about doing online cash transactions on your own that my readers should be aware of. Recently, a guy I know who works out at 24 Hour Fitness, who is a car collector told me about how he drove from Colorado to Ohio to meet a guy he met on the Internet to buy his truck. After driving that distance, he met the guy who was selling the truck online at night and the truck had been totally misrepresented online. The seller drove from Virginia, had two of his big friends with him, who just happened to get out of the guy’s truck with tire irons and asked if he had brought the $10,000 in cash with him to buy his vehicle. He said that there was no doubt that they had planned to mug him for his $10,000 and who knows what else.

The guy telling me the story just happened to have a conceal and carry permit and had brought along his gun, which possibly could have got him in trouble crossing State lines with a firearm. He warned them that they had better think twice or he had no problem putting a bullet in them. That was a wild story to say the least and it emphasizes the importance of being safe when buying or selling vehicles today on your own.

I hope you enjoy the photos. The photo shoot that was done on this vehicle really turned out great!

2008 BMW 5 Series 535xi Consignment – SOLD!

Hey Cool Car Fans,

This weekend I sold a super cool black with tan interior 2008 BMW 535 with X-Drive to a couple that was looking for this exact vehicle with these options.

The person who consigned this vehicle with me was the former Marketing Director at a large dealership in town, but she called The Cool Car Guy to have her sell her vehicle and she was able to get the price she wanted for it.  She’s getting a Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic that I have on consignment for another client later today.  It’s really cool when it works out for multiple parties and I can help two people sell their vehicles at the same time.

The people who purchased this vehicle paid cash and they were really impressed with the quality of this vehicle.   Even though it’s gone now, it’s a really cool vehicle, so I decided to list it here at CoolCarGuy.com with some of the photos that were taken when it was placed online for sale.  The 5 series BMW is a really popular vehicle here in Colorado and I have known a number of people who have traded in their Acura, Lexus and Infiniti to get into the performance of this vehicle.

The 2008 BMW 5-Series lineup was updated with a new nomenclature, a refreshed look and a redesigned interior. While the 525i and 525xi was replaced by the 528i and 528xi, they also receive a new 230-horsepower engine. The 530i and 530xi became the 535i and 535xi and was upgraded with a 300-horsepower twin-turbo inline-six engine.

It also included an updated STEPTRONIC that allowed for faster shifting and better efficiency.  You will notice in the photos that it was enhanced by a revised front fascia, the exterior also featured new taillights and a new rear air-diffuser that was really cool.

The interior was fitted with more storage space and a better ergonomic design since that was becoming a hot button for manufacturer’s in 2008.  Other features included a Lane Departure Warning system and Active Cruise Control with the “Stop & Go” feature.

This one came equipped with the new Sport Package that was available in the 550i that gave it the 19-inch wheels and new body treatments.  New optional wheels and tires were also available with the 528i Sport Package, but these are much more difficult to find on the used car market since most people won’t pay the premium for the upgraded performance enhancements and options.
