🕶️ ABOUT THE COOL CAR GUY™

WHO CALLS HIMSELF “THE COOL CAR GUY”?

I didn’t.

One of my clients did.

Back around 2005, I had already started doing something that was unusual in the car business at the time.

Instead of making every customer spend hours sitting inside a dealership, I delivered vehicles wherever it made sense:

  • Their home
  • Their office
  • A coffee shop
  • A restaurant
  • Or another convenient place where they wanted to meet

This was about fifteen years before COVID-19 suddenly convinced everyone that avoiding a dealership might be a modern idea.

One day, I was delivering a new Mercedes-Benz to a woman who had been referred to me.

She asked me to meet her at a top-tier restaurant in Denver.

When I walked inside, she was speaking with a group of women. She stopped in the middle of the conversation, pointed toward me and said:

“Ladies, this is John Boyd, my cool car guy. He’s about to deliver my new car in a few minutes. How cool is that?”

The name stuck.

The referrals kept coming.

And I bought the domain name.

I DID NOT INVENT THE NAME.
I BUILT THE BUSINESS THAT CAUSED SOMEBODY ELSE TO SAY IT.

⭐ MORE THAN TWENTY YEARS AROUND CARS

I have spent more than twenty years buying, selling, sourcing, brokering and talking about cars.

I have owned a dealership, sold and brokered vehicles, shipped cars across the country, worked with dealer auctions and helped people buy and sell everything from practical transportation to high-line automobiles.

Today, I work through a Colorado dealership that allows me to broker vehicles and buy through dealer auctions—including Manheim—without operating a traditional dealership full of inventory.

I get to concentrate on the interesting part:

  • Finding the right vehicle
  • Understanding what it is really worth
  • Recognizing what makes it special
  • Helping people present it properly
  • And telling the story behind it

⭐ FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO COOLCARGUY.COM

CoolCarGuy.com originally grew out of my automotive business.

But I eventually realized that I did not want to build another ordinary dealership website filled with rows of inventory cards that disappeared as soon as the vehicles sold.

I wanted a place where I could do more.

  • Feature cars I own, sell, broker or discover
  • Explain what I see happening at dealer auctions
  • Talk honestly about vehicle prices and ownership costs
  • Document road trips, purchases, repairs and mistakes
  • Introduce owners, collectors, builders and automotive businesses
  • Share videos, opinions and cool-car stories
  • Preserve the stories after the transaction ends

That became CoolCarGuy.com.

Not simply another place to list cars.

A boutique automotive publishing property built around cool cars and everything worth parking around them.

⭐ OKAY, COOL CAR GUY—WHAT IS A COOL CAR?

People have been asking me that question for more than twenty years.

My answer has always been the same:

“Whatever is cool to you.”

Most people already know when a car has some element of cool.

They may not agree on the same car, but they recognize the feeling.

A Subaru WRX is not the same kind of cool as a Porsche 911.

But both are cool.

They may simply be found racing on different tracks.

A Ferrari can be cool.

So can:

  • A faded classic carrying fifty years of history
  • A tuner built one paycheck at a time
  • A lifted truck covered in evidence that it actually leaves the pavement
  • A family car connected to decades of memories
  • A race car, drift car or off-road build
  • A strange roadside discovery
  • A daily driver with an unexpectedly great story

Cool can come from:

  • Design
  • Performance
  • Sound
  • History
  • Craftsmanship
  • Personality
  • Emotion
  • Or the person and experience connected to the car

Sometimes the cool is obvious.
Sometimes somebody has to reveal it.

That is why the story matters—and that is part of what I do here.

“Whatever is cool to you” does not mean every random vehicle automatically belongs on CoolCarGuy.com.

It means cool is personal, not dictated entirely by price, status or somebody else’s approved list.

A car still needs a legitimate reason to belong in the Cool Garage by the Beach.

A WRX AND A 911 MAY TAKE DIFFERENT ROUTES.
THEY CAN BOTH ARRIVE AT COOL.

⭐ WHAT I CREATE

I use full-page multimedia posts called Parking Spots to publish the content on CoolCarGuy.com.

A Parking Spot might feature:

  • A cool car for sale
  • A vehicle I found beside the road
  • A car I purchased through an auction
  • An ownership or repair experience
  • An owner, collector, builder or creator
  • An automotive business, product or service
  • A video worth watching
  • An opinion, comparison or industry observation
  • A story that would never fit inside an ordinary classified advertisement

I can then use that Parking Spot as the source page for content published through @TheCoolCarGuy on YouTube, The Cool Car Guy on Rumble and the social platforms I use for distribution.

The video can send people to the Parking Spot.

The Parking Spot can embed the video, preserve the photographs, hold the complete story and connect visitors to whatever comes next.

THE CAR CREATES THE SUBJECT.
THE PARKING SPOT HOLDS THE STORY.
THE CHANNELS HELP IT TRAVEL.

⭐ I DO NOT HAVE TO WAIT FOR SOMEBODY ELSE

One of the most important things I finally understood is that CoolCarGuy.com does not have to sit empty while I wait for somebody else to make it interesting.

I can keep:

  • Finding cool cars
  • Writing stories
  • Reviewing videos
  • Sharing opinions
  • Creating Parking Spots
  • Turning selected Parking Spots into YouTube and Rumble videos
  • Building the website and channels one worthwhile subject at a time

If nobody joins me, I still end up with a growing automotive website, a Garage full of cool-car content and video channels built around subjects I actually find interesting.

If somebody sees what I am doing and wants to park something worthwhile here too?

Even better.

⭐ COOL CAR GUY, INC. AND FREAK SITES, INC.

CoolCarGuy.com is owned and operated by Cool Car Guy, Inc.

It is my standalone boutique automotive property, focused specifically on cool cars and the people, businesses, videos and stories surrounding them.

I also founded Freak Sites, Inc., a separate company that owns CarsFreak.com and the other Freak Sites.

CarsFreak.com covers the broader automotive world. The other Freak Sites apply the same basic Parking Spot publishing format to different interests and industries.

The companies use similar technology, but they remain separate businesses, brands and properties.

CoolCarGuy.com is the boutique garage.
CarsFreak.com is the everything-cars property.

⭐ LIFE BEYOND THE GARAGE

Cars have occupied a large part of my life, but they are not the whole story.

I completed 122 full marathons before retiring from the full-marathon distance. My wife completed 100.

That probably explains something about how I approach long projects.

I have also written books, produced videos, built websites and spent years experimenting with different ways for ordinary people to publish, promote ideas and participate online.

Some experiments worked better than others.

But I have never had much interest in building the same thing everybody else already built.

⭐ FOLLOW THE COOL CAR GUY

You can follow the cars, stories, videos, opinions, auction experiences, road trips and occasional automotive disasters through:

Look around.

Read a story.
Watch a video.
Find a cool car.
Question my opinion.
Tell me when I am wrong.

That is part of the fun.

THE CARS ARE COOL.
THE STORIES ARE USUALLY BETTER.
