💋 Sex, Comedy & 700 Horsepower: When a Comedian Outsold Aston Martin
Topic | Category: Video Review

What happens when a stand-up comic makes a better “sexy car ad” than one of the world’s most exclusive—and supposedly sexiest—car brands?

The automotive world has been selling fantasy for more than a hundred years—but the way that fantasy gets packaged has changed.

Enter two SUVs that could not be more different:

  • The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, a full-size family hauler born in Detroit.
  • The Aston Martin DBX707, a 707-horsepower British missile disguised as an SUV.

One costs just under six figures when new.

The other can cost about the same used—and might land you in jail if you enjoy freeway on-ramps a little too much.

The Ads That Tell the Story

Video #1: Jeep Grand Wagoneer “Family SUV”

🎥 Comedian Iliza Shlesinger’s official Jeep advertisement had more than 3.1 million views within two weeks when I first recorded the numbers.

It began as a comedy bit, and Jeep leaned into it.

She sells the Wagoneer by making fun of the way nearly every SUV claims to be “for the family.” Then she flips the familiar sales pitch with a wink and a punchline that made social media explode.

👉 It is self-aware, funny and, yes, dripping with innuendo.

Video #2: “Power. What Is It?” — Aston Martin DBX707 With Felicity Jones

🎥 When I first created this Parking Spot, Aston Martin’s official campaign had approximately 2,100 views after several years and no visible comments.

It featured actress Felicity Jones.

Beautiful. Polished. British.

But it also felt cold—stylish but sterile.

It felt as though Aston Martin was selling elegance rather than emotion.

Image #3: The “Fake” Aston Martin Advertisement

🖼 “You know you’re not the first, but do you really care?”

That unofficial “pre-owned Aston Martin” advertisement has circulated through marketing discussions and meme pages since approximately 2013.

Aston Martin did not produce it.

And yet it may have generated more attention than many official advertisements ever could.

The Cool Car Guy Take

A couple of years ago, when I still owned my car dealership, one of my clients told me about the Aston Martin DBX707 he had purchased for his wife:

“John, I can’t stop speeding in this thing. I hit the on-ramp in Denver and I’m doing 90 before I’m even on the freeway.”

That is the Aston Martin experience—raw, intoxicating, mechanical desire.

But the marketing did not seem to match the emotion.

Meanwhile, Jeep—a brand built around mud, trails and tailgates—found a way to make a large luxury SUV go viral by laughing at itself.

Let’s compare the numbers as they appeared when I created this comparison:

Aston Martin DBX707 — Felicity Jones Campaign

Ad Type: Official commercial
Channel Subscribers: 325K
Views: 2.1K
Engagement: Low

Jeep / Iliza Shlesinger Comedy Campaign

Ad Type: Official collaboration
Channel Subscribers: 265K
Views: 3.1 million
Engagement: Exploded

“Fake” Aston Martin Advertisement

Ad Type: Unofficial viral image
Channel Subscribers: Not applicable
Views: Millions across X, Reddit and other platforms
Engagement: Cultural icon

Those are not merely marketing metrics.

They demonstrate that tone—not simply budget—can determine whether people care enough to watch, share and remember an advertisement.

Now let me put these numbers into perspective.

I included the fake Aston Martin advertisement as the primary image for this Parking Spot because it became part of automotive marketing culture.

How viral did it become?

On November 23, 2024, Elon Musk reposted the fake advertisement on X.

When I recorded the numbers, his post had generated approximately 87 million views and 9,100 replies.

His post read:

“Best fake ad ever. This meme ad was made in 2013 when it was actually vaguely possible that it might be real.”

You can see the X post here.

How crazy is that for the marketing metrics attached to a fake advertisement?

Maybe Aston Martin should have embraced the message—lol.

👉 A fake advertisement from 2013 and a Jeep comedy campaign both outperformed Aston Martin’s polished commercial by orders of magnitude.

The Real Question

Why did a comedian appear to understand the automotive audience better than a luxury automobile manufacturer?

Because humor + honesty + desire creates something people can feel.

The Aston Martin campaign whispered seduction.

Jeep made a joke out of it—and people responded because the joke felt human.

Sex sells.

Humor sells.

But authenticity often sells longer.

The Money Angle

Here is the kicker:

At the time this comparison was written, a new high-end Jeep Wagoneer could approach or exceed six figures depending on configuration.

A used Aston Martin DBX707 could also occupy that six-figure territory.

Both are luxurious.

Both are aspirational.

Both use desire and status in completely different ways.

So which would you rather have?

The comedian’s family SUV—or the British super-SUV that does not need a joke?

Either way, you are paying for the feeling.

Because whether it is laughter or lust, the right story will always redline the algorithm.

Listings of real vehicles are welcome. This particular Parking Spot is an automotive and cultural critique.

Important note: The infamous “Aston Martin pre-owned” advertisement was not produced or officially confirmed by Aston Martin.

It has circulated online as a viral fan creation since approximately 2013.

I am using it here to make a point: sometimes unofficial advertising sells the fantasy better than the official campaign.

Its virality is part of the story.

Update: The Original Aston Martin Video Disappeared

After I posted a comment on Aston Martin’s official Felicity Jones DBX707 campaign video and linked to this Parking Spot, the video was later set to private.

I do not know why Aston Martin made the video private or whether my comment had anything to do with that decision.

The timing was simply notable because my comment discussed the enormous difference in engagement between Aston Martin’s campaign and Jeep’s viral advertisement.

Here is the original YouTube link, which may now display as private:

The original view count may no longer be independently visible through that video page.

This Parking Spot reflects my opinion about two manufacturers and three very different campaigns.

Sometimes large companies get their marketing right.

Sometimes they miss the mark.

⭐ This Started With Three Automotive Ads

  • I did not own the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
  • I did not own the Aston Martin DBX707.
  • I did not create Iliza Shlesinger’s commercial.
  • I did not produce the Felicity Jones campaign.
  • I did not create the fake Aston Martin advertisement that Elon Musk later shared.

I simply noticed something interesting.

  • A comedian made a family SUV advertisement people wanted to watch.
  • A luxury manufacturer produced a polished commercial that attracted comparatively little engagement.
  • An unofficial fake advertisement became more memorable than either company could have planned.

So I compared them.

I added my opinion based on more than 20 years in the automobile business.

I embedded the campaigns.

And I turned the entire conversation into a full-page advertisement inside CoolCarGuy.com.

This Parking Spot now has:

  • its own URL;
  • embedded media;
  • automotive commentary;
  • my personal industry perspective;
  • no scheduled expiration;
  • a permanent place inside CoolCarGuy.com;
  • and more than 2,400 views.

The cost to create a Cool Car Guy Parking Spot is:

$7

At 2,400 views, seven dollars divided by 2,400 works out to approximately $0.0029 per view.

Less Than One-Third of One Cent Per View

And every additional visit lowers the average cost per view.

The page is also still here.

It has not expired.

It has not disappeared into a social media feed.

And I do not have to continually feed an advertising meter to keep the URL alive.

⭐ When the Video Changed, the Parking Spot Kept Working

When Aston Martin’s original YouTube video became private, an ordinary social media post could have been left with a dead video and nowhere useful to go.

Instead, I could return to this Parking Spot and update the story.

  • Same Parking Spot.
  • Same URL.
  • Same accumulated view history.

I did not lose the views already attached to the page.

I did not have to purchase an entirely new advertisement.

I simply updated the advertisement and kept it working.

That is the advantage of an advertisement you control.

  • You can improve it.
  • Correct it.
  • Add new information.
  • Replace unavailable videos.
  • Strengthen the argument.
  • Update the call to action.
  • Or remove it on your own terms.

⭐ Your Opinion Can Become the Advertisement

You do not necessarily have to own the vehicle.

You do not have to be selling the vehicle.

You do not have to produce the original video.

You can create an advertisement around:

  • an automotive advertising campaign;
  • a vehicle review;
  • an industry trend;
  • a manufacturer’s decision;
  • a dealership experience;
  • a product comparison;
  • a controversial opinion;
  • or something happening in cool-car culture that people are already discussing.

Your knowledge becomes the angle.

The cars create the attention.

Your opinion creates the advertisement.

Several Parking Spots can begin building your own automotive channel inside CoolCarGuy.com.

⭐ And Yes—the Advertisement Can Help Create Income

When qualifying customers discover CoolCarGuy.com through your properly tracked affiliate link and purchase qualifying products, you can participate in the revenue according to the current affiliate-program terms.

YOU CAN GET PAID.

The current revenue-share structure is:

💰 20% — Direct commission
💰 15% — Level 1
💰 10% — Level 2
💰 5% — Level 3
💰 5% — Level 4

That means an advertisement can do more than attract views.

  • It can promote your opinion.
  • Demonstrate your automotive knowledge.
  • Help build your Cool Car Guy channel.
  • Introduce other advertisers to the platform.
  • And participate in qualifying revenue generated through your connected affiliate path.

That is The Lifestyle Income Engine™ built into CoolCarGuy.com.

⭐ Here Is What I Already Know

Your automotive opinion is probably not receiving any of these benefits right now.

  • It does not have its own URL inside CoolCarGuy.com.
  • It is not accumulating views here.
  • It is not building your automotive channel here.
  • It is not introducing qualifying customers through your affiliate link.

Why?

Because you have not turned it into an advertisement.

TRY DOING THIS ANYWHERE ELSE.

YOU CAN’T.

THERE IS ONLY ONE COOLCARGUY.COM.

And I’m letting you use it.

Think you can find a crazier automotive marketing comparison than a comedian, a British actress and a fake sex advertisement?

Give it a try.

⭐ 2,536 VIEWS LATER…

As I update this Parking Spot again, the view counter is sitting at 2,536 views.

And think about what this page actually is.

I didn’t own the Jeep.
I didn’t own the Aston Martin.
I didn’t create any of the ads.

I noticed something interesting, had an opinion about it, and turned that opinion into a Parking Spot.

That’s pretty much how I use CoolCarGuy.com.

I’ve had the Cool Car Guy name on my cars, on license-plate placards, across the internet and around the car world for decades.

It’s just part of what I do.

I write about cars.
I talk about cars.
I promote things I think are interesting.
And sometimes a page like this ends up getting thousands of views.

Now here’s the part I find funny:

YOU CAN COME PLAY IN THE SAME SANDBOX FOR $7.

Seven bucks. One time.

You could take a car, a video, an opinion, a business, a product, an advertisement, or some ridiculous automotive comparison nobody else thought to make and turn it into your own Parking Spot.

You could have created this page.

Why $7?

I think it’s a cool idea.

I want to see what people do with it.

And if you want to take it another step, you can apply to the CoolCarGuy.com affiliate program for free and potentially earn commissions by introducing other people to the website.

Build the page.
Grab the URL.
Start sharing it.
